When you immigrate from Peru to the United States everything changes, everything is different.
In order to pay for the rent, two cars, insurance, food, etc., both spouses have to work.
In Peru Angela stayed home and fixed the meals for the family. Here this is not possible.
So, when we were living in Pleasant Grove, I had to buy frozen dinners for my lunch at work. After almost two years eating frozen dinners I got sick, food poisened because of the many preservatives in the food.
I never had to cook meals in Peru, and I had no idea how to do it.
Because Angela was not at home to cook, I made the decision to fix my own meals.
So I bought the book Cooking for Dummies. "This is for me." I thought, and began to read it. After a few pages I decided to cook my first meal.
I got all the ingredients, opened the book, found the recipe, and began to follow all the steps, one by one. "Put something in the pot, add another thing, stir up once in a while, fix apart another thing, etc, etc." Something like that, I don't remember. But I followed all the steps carefully.
After twenty minutes or more, nothing was happening in the pot. So I called Angela:
- Angela, I have followed all the instructions step by step, and nothing is happening here.
She asked me:
- Have you turned on the stove?
I responded.
- No, the recipe here doesn't say: Turn on the stove first.
That was my first and last try to cook my own meals.
It was a nice try, though.
